Driver Profile - Dave Cormier

Dave Cormier, Driver

The first time Dave Cormier got in a race car was during a corporate day at Mont Tremblant just outside of Montreal in a formula 1600 car in 1986. The head instructor had told his boss at the time "that guy is crazy, he should come to the advanced school" and so the hook was set. Dave didn't have the money to go to racing school so the racing plans went on the back burner. A friend of Dave had mentioned the Proformance school in the mid 1990's, and so he went to their driving school in the last year they had the Toyotas. He won all the school races as well as all novice races and obtained his race license!

The next year the stock cars came into play and Dave applied for his senior license finishing 3rd in his first senior race and staying consistently in the top five over the next two years. With time being an issue he went Karting for the next three years, moving up to shifter karts on Vancouver Island, finishing second in the points in 2002, and winning the Driver of the Year Award.

In 2003 Dave split his time between the stock car and karts and still managed to win the Driver of the Year award in karts for the second time. From 2003 until 2006 Dave enjoyed driving the stockcar and achieved a tremendous amount of success with it winning a high percentage of races. When asked about racing a Porsche in the 2007 season and beyond here's what he had to say.

"I started my love affair with Porsche over 20 years ago. My first car was a 1977 911s. I still remember getting up in the middle of the night and looking in on my 911. It brought an enormous smile to my face and to this day owning one still does. While I've owned a number of Porsche over the years the first time I sat in the GT2 RSR race car I knew I was sitting in something very special. Driving the car for the first time I realized how truly amazing this car is. I'm very much looking forward to the upcoming race seasons."
